If you answer yes to any one of the following questions, you may be suffering from heavy bleeding.

  • Do heavy periods interfere with your life?  If so, you are not alone. One in four women suffers from heavy periods caused by Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB).
  • Does your period last longer than seven days?
  • Do you use more than three pads or tampons per day?
  • Do you feel the need to double up on feminine protection?
  • Do you become fatigued due to your heavy bleeding?
  • Does your heavy bleeding affect your social, athletic or sexual activities?
  • Do you miss work because of your periods?
  • Do you pass clots during your periods?
  • Do you avoid leaving your home for fear of accidents?
  • Do you avoid wearing light colors during your period?
  • Has medication (birth control pills) failed to help your heavy bleeding?

AUB can be emotionally and physically devastating, causing many women to limit their activities and lifestyle.  We want to help so call New Braunfels OB/Gyn for an appointment for heavy and irregular menstrual bleeding evaluation and treatment.  Keep in mind, heavy bleeding can be a warning sign of cancer, so don’t delay.

Contraception Counseling

New Braunfels OB/GYN offers multiple solutions to your contraception need:

Oral contraceptives – birth control pills

Nexplanon – NEXPLANON is the birth control implant that goes in the arm.  It is as effective as the pill, but without the daily hassle.  This small, thin, and flexible implant is placed discreetly under the skin of the inner, non-dominant upper arm by your healthcare provider.  For more information about NEXPLANON visit www.nexplanon.com.

Intrauterine Device (IUD) – Device that releases small amounts of hormones locally into the uterus. Placement is performed in the office by the physician with little to no discomfort.

  • Mirena – Mirena is a hormone-releasing IUD placed in your uterus and is recommended for use in women who have had a child. Mirena also treats heavy periods in women who choose intrauterine contraception. For more information about Mirena visit www.Mirena-us.com.
  • Kyleena – Kyleena is a hormone-releasing IUD that also continuously offers protection from pregnancy and can be used whether or not you have had a child. For more information about Kyleena visit www.Kyleena-us.com.

IUD Aftercare

Nuva Ring – works similarly to the pill but has much lower side effects because of lower dose of hormones. The ring is inserted vaginally by you and lasts for one month. For more information about NuvaRing visit www.nuvaring.com

Depo-Provera – Injection given in the arm/buttocks every 12 weeks to prevent pregnancy.

Salpingectomy – a salpingectomy is a surgical procedure where a woman’s fallopian tubes are removed.  If done laparoscopically, removal can be achieved by making a small incision near the navel.  This reduces recovery time and the risk of complications.

Infertility

The majority of couples (85%) will achieve pregnancy within one year. If you, however, struggle to achieve pregnancy our doctors will evaluate your needs by talking with you first and then ordering indicated tests which may include blood work, a semen analysis, ultrasound and/or HSG (Hysterosalpingogram). Referral to a Fertility Specialist may also be considered on a case by case basis.

Menopause Evaluation and Treatment

Menopause can be a very challenging time for women. It marks the end of your ”reproductive“ years and the beginning of a new phase in life. Causing changes in hormone levels and changes in your body. This is a time of life when it is good to have a doctor with whom you are comfortable discussing these changes. Dr. Reddy or Dr. Graebe can devise a treatment plan that is right for you and your body. We treat each patient individually basing treatment on your symptoms, medical issues and family history.

Preconception Counseling

If you and your partner are considering pregnancy, whether you are thinking about becoming pregnant next month or next year call our office to help prepare for your needs.

Here are a few topics we discuss during a preconception counseling appointment:

  • Annual exam: When was the last one? We need to assess your baseline health status to establish where you are regarding your health.
  • Nutrition: Prenatal vitamin with folic acid that helps prevent birth defects before you become pregnant is highly recommended. We will assess your nutritional status and make dietary recommendations to ensure your body is getting what it needs from the foods you eat.
  • Genetic screening: An optional test our doctors offer as part of her prenatal counseling is the Cystic Fibrosis Carrier Screening. This precise genetic carrier screening can identify with pinpoint accuracy the likelihood of your child inheriting Cystic Fibrosis. Alternatively, New Braunfels OB/GYN offers Horizon Carrier Screening.

Horizon Carrier Screening

The Horizon genetic carrier screening helps couples determine the risk of passing on serious genetic conditions to their child. It can be performed either preconception (ideally) or during pregnancy.  Using the latest technologies, including next-generation sequencing, Horizon screens for up to 274 genetic conditions, including commonly screened conditions such as cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, fragile X syndrome, and sickle cell anemia.  Advanced technology and unmatched support make Horizon unique among DNA screening tests. The test is easy to take. Results are presented clearly, directly, and can pave the way to critical action steps. Visit www.natera.com to learn more about this screening.

Well Woman Exams

An annual exam or well woman exam is a yearly visit for a general health check, including a breast exam and Pap smear. You may expect the following:

  • General physical exam
  • Pelvic exam
  • Clinical breast exam
  • Complete health history
  • Complete review of current medications
  • Evaluation for additional health screening tests
(i.e. mammograms, DEXA, cancer screening etc.)

We will happily assist you in checking your insurance policy to maximize your benefits for a yearly preventative health visit or a women’s health Pap/pelvic/breast exam. Different insurance policies have different rules for preventative care coverage. Most insurance companies will only pay for one annual exam per year. Your appointment must be at least one year from your previous annual exam.

Gynecological Infections

Are you suffering from vaginal pain, itching, burning, or discharge?  Allow our doctors to evaluate and cure what may be a common gynecological infection.  Dr. Reddy and Dr. Graebe have tests at their disposal for the diagnosis of various infections including:  sexually transmitted infections, urinary tract infections, yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, and trichomoniasis.  Don’t delay in calling for you in-office evaluation and be sure to clearly let us know your symptoms so we can address the problem in a timely fashion.

BRCA Testing

The purpose of BRCA testing is to see if you are carrying a BRCA mutation and could therefore be at increased risk for developing certain cancers, including breast or ovarian cancer. Knowing you are a carrier can allow your physician to provide the appropriate additional screening and/or prevention options that could help reduce your risk of developing cancer. The BRCAssure test requires a sample of blood and filling out a family history questionnaire.
